Jim’s experience includes: prototyping; plant layout; equipment design and assembly; short run production; shipping and handling; field installation crew supervision; logos and trademarks; foreign licensing; tradeshow exhibit design and fabrication; ad creation, production, media buying; investor relations and marketing.
Under the AffordaBilt* banner Jim invented the ESU* (Expanding Space Unit) System. This is best described as a hybrid panelized and modular system. The ESU* “off the shelf” line of components offers a unique blend of maximum design flexibility with minimum onsite labor. The wide load shipping and design constraints of mobile and modular homes are eliminated. ESUs can be built from framing lumber, light gauge steel, C-Stix* or SteelStix*.
Jim created prototype tooling and built a 2,240 SF raised ranch home using ESU* compound folding panels and closet/bath Cubes*. The entire house was built in-plant, shipped on 8' wide trailers, and erected by three men with a light crane (including AffordaBase* panels for the foundation and lower level floor). The AffordaBeam* OSB/steel sub-components in the roof sections and floor panels provided an excellent stiffness to weight ratio and made precision tongue-and-groove mating of 28' sections possible. Panelized foundations, full egress windows and a very efficient heating system have given the lower level of the house main level comfort. Heating bills have been less than half of similar sized houses in the area.
